Childhood obesity is one of the most complicated problems, and parents have to create healthy eating habits and encourage their kids to shed extra pounds. Thus, parents should balance the calorie-intake of their child and make them habitual of workouts.

Make Their Favorite Dishes Healthier

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than twenty percent children in the United States and Canada love burgers, pizzas, soft drinks and French fries more than homemade foods. Instead of meatballs, spaghetti, noodles, and junk foods, you can prepare whole-wheat pasta, spaghetti squash or zucchini noodles for your children. Leaving out the oil can cut 50 calories per teaspoon in your food. It’s perfect to try oils that are low in saturated and mono-saturated fats. Similarly, the recopies that indicate that you should add extra salt should be cut down. Instead, you can prepare food for your kids using herbs, lemon juice, mustard, vinegar, and black pepper. If your little one is hungry between meals, offer him fruit juices or fresh salad instead of chips and ice cream.

Drink Lots Of Water

When a person’s water intake doesn’t equal his output, he is likely to become dehydrated. Drinking lots of water can make your child feel less tempted to eat his favorite snacks. Stanford University’s researchers claim that when your children are low on fruits, their nerve cells trigger the body’s thirst mechanism and cause obesity. Get your child fresh juices, milk, and lots of water to ensure his health.

Exercises And Other Physical Activities

You probably know that extracurricular activities are safe for your child’s health. A report by the World Health Organization (WHO) suggests that walking to school is not enough; your child needs a lot of physical activities to shed extra pounds. Depending on a kid’s fitness level, walking or riding to school are two moderate activities. As a parent, you should plan some muscle and bone strengthening activities for your child.

Limit Their Screen Time

Children who regularly watch television or play video games become lazy and avoid physical activities. As a result, they gain weight and suffer from severe complications. Scientists prove that children under age 7 watch an average of 3 hours of screen media per day, primarily television and videos; and children from 8 to 15 years spend more than 5 hours in front of a screen every day.

The effects of video games, TV programs and computer screens on children are not pleasant, so parents should limit their screen time.
